Why emergency calls work differently on VoIP
A mobile or landline is tied to a known location, so a 911 dispatcher can see where you are. An internet-based (VoIP) number can be used from anywhere, so emergency services cannot know your location unless it is registered in advance.
What E911 does
Enhanced 911 (E911) links your number to a registered service address. When you dial 911, the call is routed to the emergency center for that address and the dispatcher sees it. US rules require VoIP providers to tell customers about these limits and to offer E911 where calls can reach 911.
HynoConnect numbers and 911
- By default a number cannot call 911 or other emergency services.
- Add the Emergency calling add-on, give us the address where the number is used, and we register it with the carrier and confirm in writing when it is active.
- If you move, update the address before you use the number at the new place.
- Keep another phone available for emergencies, especially if your internet connection or power may fail.
