What a VoIP number is
A VoIP number is a normal-looking phone number that works over the internet instead of over a SIM card in a handset. Calls and texts reach you in an app or a web dashboard, and calls can be forwarded to another phone.
HynoConnect numbers are VoIP business numbers. They are not mobile SIM numbers, and we say so before you buy.
How it differs from a mobile number
A mobile number is tied to a SIM and a mobile plan, and it is registered to a handset on a carrier network. A VoIP number is tied to an account and works on any device that can run the app.
That difference matters for two reasons: where you can use the number, and how other services see it.
- No SIM card, no QR code and no handset to carry
- One account on the web, Android and iOS web app
- Several lines on one account
- A number type that some services identify as internet-based
Why some services treat VoIP numbers differently
Banks, payment providers and apps often check what kind of line a phone number is. Some accept business numbers, some accept only mobile numbers, and many change their rules over time.
We cannot control those rules and we do not promise that any service will accept a HynoConnect number. Read the requirements of the service you want to use before you order.
What a business number is good for
A business number keeps customer calls and texts apart from your personal phone and gives US customers a local number to reach you.
- A support or sales line for your own business
- Order and appointment messages to your own customers
- Forwarding calls to the phone you have with you
What it is not for
A HynoConnect number does not support calls to 911 or other emergency services. It must not be used for accounts that are not yours, for evading a service's rules, or for spam. See the acceptable use policy and the emergency calling notice for the full rules.
